My country…
This documentary photo series is a tribute to the uniqueness of my country …
When I travel through the realm in which I live I’m fascinated each time by the special character and the uniqueness of the roads & villages in my country, which is known (or cursed?) because of its ribbon building and cottages.
I then consider myself a privileged spectator, as a tourist in his own country looking through the window of the car or train and sees the eclectic mix of landscapes and buildings – in all kinds of different styles – passing by.
I want the impressions of this visual odyssey to stay with me, because they reflect the childhood I grew up in, which made me who I am today. I try to capture the belgitude, the raw individuality and character of my country in every photo, so that this is not lost.

The ‘My Country’ photo series also includes a short film, which is presented together with the photo series.
It is a stop-motion video of a number of photos I took in a street in Tienen, with a distance of 1.25 m between them. By turning the (several hundreds of) photos into a stop-motion film, as a traveler you really have the feeling of passing through this street, and absorbing everything about it.
This short film is inspired on “Drive Along Sunset Boulevard”, the iconic work of art of Ed Ruscha.
To emphasize the link with ‘my country’ I’ve chosen to mount Belgian music to it, in particular ‘La route’ from ‘Vive la Fête’
